How It Plays

Three ideas that make every session worth showing up for.

Invictus is designed around the things that make campaigns memorable: fiction that drives the rules, stories that earn their endings, and a table where everyone shapes what happens next.

Fiction First

Your table becomes a stage.

In Invictus, the Narrator never rolls dice. Instead, they direct scenes like a playwright — raising stakes, shifting circumstances, and letting dramatic tension build until the moment it matters most. Players drive the action; the Narrator shapes the world around them.

Rules step in only when the fiction demands it, giving weight to the moments where character, intention, and consequence collide. Everything else is theatre.

Stories That End

Every arc earns its ending.

Most RPG campaigns fizzle out or run until the group drifts apart. Invictus is built for medium-length campaigns — long enough to develop characters and let relationships deepen, short enough that every session carries weight. No filler, no fade-out. Just a story that builds to a finale worth remembering.

The Setting

A flat world turning inside a clockwork sky.

Eidolon is a disk world suspended within the Orrery, a vast celestial machine of hidden gears and turning spheres. A great Pendulum swings between sun and moon, casting light and shadow across the Firmament below. At the world's heart grows Palladium, the World Tree, and beneath its roots lies the imperial capital of Metropolaris.

Every god in Eidolon was once mortal. Through legendary deeds, heroes rose to immortality and claimed divine power. The gods remember hunger, fear, and hope. Their ascension is not myth. It is recorded history, and it tells every Hero that the boundary can be crossed again.

The Rules

Players roll. The Narrator shapes.

Players roll dice when their Heroes attempt something uncertain, and the outcome shapes what happens next. The Narrator never rolls dice. Instead, the Narrator spends Fate to introduce complications, shift circumstances, or push events in directions the story demands.

Without dice to roll, the Narrator stays focused on shaping narrative rather than opposing players with statistics. Players discover what their Heroes can achieve. The Narrator ensures the world responds with weight and intention.

This is what a campaign becomes

The Light Fanatics cover

The first Invictus campaign ran for two years. It became a 325,000-word trilogy. The Light Fanatics follows House de Vaillant; rival heirs, hidden factions, and a legacy contested in the shadow of a fallen patriarch.

It was not written from notes. It was novelised directly from the sessions: the decisions the players made, the moments that surprised everyone at the table, the ending they earned. This is what Invictus is designed to produce.

Your campaign could be next.
